I am Jude and have had cats all my life. Recently, Adopted a new boy, well maybe 6 months ago. What a lovinging and sweet Monty boy he is ..he is full throttle and with the other cats and so I just chalked it up to maybe rough housing, anyway, he has started having these rough and bloody spots right before his ear openings....lets call it his temple area. I have put salve and peroxide on them and even tried to wrap his head, but that didn't work at he ripped that right off and takes his paws and wipes the salve off. One day he looks like he is healing and the next he looks like he is bloody again, so the process starts all over with me treating him. I have never ever seen this happen before. He is strictly In doors. The other two cats no issue. Jax and Monty play hard so I figured this is where it started and I'm thinking I'm gonna get a cone and try this benadryl on him again. He co tines eating and he seems to be a happy boy and the rest of his coat is great. I really don't think this is a food allergy either. He is eating better food than what he was getting at a shelter. Any comments besides a full blown panel work up which 9/10 comes up with nothing and $400 later?
Thanks so much!

I agree that a vet visit is in order.

There is no point in giving the cat Benadryl if you don't even think it is an allergy, because it won't help.

My vet always says that you shouldn't put anything, any kind of salve or anything, on a pet unless told to by a vet. Doing so can harm the animal if they lick it off, and can actually slow down the healing process b y keeping it moist when what it needs is to scab over to heal. In my opinion it would be better just to leave those spots alone to heal on their own. Putting stuff on them and a cone and so on is only going to stress your cat out unnecessarily.

My cat gets an open sore under his chin now and then which i think happens if he scratches too hard. then the scab itches and he scratches it off. And so on. I simply check it every day to make sure it's not infected and otherwise leave it completely alone and it does heal on its own.

But get to a vet and then follow whatever advice you get there, as it will be more accurate to what is going on with your cat than what we can say from a distance.
