At Walmart and also pet stores, they have Kitty formula ready made in a can and also powder formula. At Walmart they only have one size bottle and nipple, but at the pet stores you can buy different types of nipples for your kitties....

When they are a bit older I advance them to the kitty formula mixed with baby cereal until they are ready for softened cat food.

hope this helps.

PS....

Since there is not a Mama Cat to take care of them.........

Take a cotton ball dipped in warm water and wipe their genital area so that they will urinate....and also wipe their rectal area to keep it clean...

Kittens can't urinate on their own, it takes the Mama Cat to lick them and help them go....if you don't do this, they will not go and may develop a bladder infection.

Also, you may want to invest in a heating pad and put it under their sleeping area to keep them warm. It's important to keep them warm as they don't have a Mama.

I raise my kitties in a oblong laundry basket with the heating pad under them and several soft towels on top, then i change the towels to keep their sleeping area clean.

They should be opening their eyes about 3 weeks...........keep their eyes cleanned also.

Take care........and god bless your new babies......

Hope it helps..........

Last week we found a 3 day old kitten. I took him to the vet. He recommended KMR powdered kitten formula. You can get it alredy mixed, but it is more expensive. Mix it up with warm water, make sure it is mixed well and all the lumps are out of it. Be sure and keep the kittens body temperature warm. A heat pad, on low under a towel should work. As far as mine, I am using a syringe on him he is so tiny - 4 ounces - that he gets too tired sucking, he does suck at the syringe but it is not so much work. He is now about 8 days old. Umbilical cord has come off but his eyes are still not open. Do be sure and use a cotton ball dipped in warm water to stimulate their genitals. Do this every time you feed them, you will be amazed at how much urine will come out. Mine sleeps all night, I have to wake him up, I think it is because there are not any other kittens squirming around to wake him up. Good luck to you they will be good cats. My two year old orange tiger was hand fed from 2-3 weeks of age and he is the most loving cat I have. By the way you can get KMR at your vet, or at Walmart or a pharmacy.

Recipe

I know this is an old post, but I thought someone else may need it. My favorite formula is:

4 oz. regular plain yogart (not fat free)
3 oz. condensed milk
3 oz. water
4 egg yolks (never egg whites)

Mix or shake before each use.

I've raised about 60 babies on this formula. They love it and it's so much less expensive than the packaged formula's.

Condensed milk

What is "condensed" milk?
Condensed milk is processed milk with most of the water removed and a sweetener added. It is very thick, almost a syrup.

With my 4 kits, at 16 days old, I used a 12oz can of KMR, but at $8/can it is just too expensive.

I then mixed up the Condensed milk formula and it worked ok but it seemed too sweet.

I then mixed this formula, which worked well.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My kitten formula

4oz water
12oz whole evaporated milk (1 can)
2 large egg yolks.
1 tablespoon clear Karo syrup

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm now using Kitten Glop.

Home-made kitten formula (Kitten Glop)

8 ounces water (boiled then cooled)
1 envelope Knox unflavored gelatin
8 ounces whole evaporated milk (not skim)
2 tablespoons mayonnaise (not low fat)
2 tablespoons plain yogurt (not low fat)
1 large or 2 small eggs yolks (raw)
1 teaspoon clear Karo syrup

* 1-3 drops liquid pet vitamins
* 1 capsule acidophilus
* 1 drop Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE)
* Optional, though very beneficial.

My kits eat every thing and we have not had any problems so far. :D

This morning I reintroduced the kits to their (recently captured) mother.

I hop this works out. Bottle feeding kits is very time consuming and she has more time then I do..

This recipe is essentially the same as mine. I think though yours is a little low on the calories. Yours comes out to be about 1.1kcal/ml . Average queen milk from my calculations, which is a average of four sources of a composition of queen milk, is 1.3kcal/ml. Kcal is 1000 calories. So if you go by the average it is .2kcals off or 200 calories. I am not saying its a bad recipe, because I feed the almost the same thing, but maybe decrease the water to 6 oz and that would bring it up to 1.23kcals. But it won't hurt to keep it the way it is as you already know from feeding you kittens.

Your recipe is far better than kmr which only has .90kcal/ml and a horrible protein to fat ratio

I also think you can leave out the acidophilus since the yogurt has pro biotic bacteria and lactase to digest lactose. Its up to you

The vit and min is another you can get by without. You would need to add taurine and salmon oil would help out with the efa's. Just some ideas. If you really want to get in to it you can also add colostrum.

my
Recipe: 12oz evap milk, 2 tabs
Yogurt, 1 tab butter, 1 tab light corn
syrup, 1 egg yolk, 1 1oz gelatin pk,
250mg taurine, 6oz water, few
drops salmon oil. I might add a vit b complex, still debating.

Here is the breakdown of mine
Totals 1.28kcal/ml 1.2:1 calcium/phosphorous ratio
Protein 8.7% Fat 7.4%
Kcal 814
Protein 53.5 G
Fat 45.56 G
Calcium 1063.5 Mg
Iron 1.505 Mg
Magnesium 101 Mg
Phosphorus 874.5Mg
Potassium 1214.5 Mg
Sodium 568 Mg
Zinc 3.585 Mg
Copper 0.681 Mg
Manganese 0.059 Mg
Fluoride 34.54 Mcg
Vitamin C 7.3 Mg
Thiamin 0.232 Mg
Riboflavin 1.393 Mg
Niacin 0.787 Mg
Pantothenic acid 3.095 Mg
Vitamin B-6 0.259 Mg
Vitamin B-12 1.08 Mcg
Vitamin A 2129 IU
Sugar 5.16 G
Vitamin E 0.79 Mg
Vitamin K 1.2 Mcg
Vitamin D 26 IU

Already lots a vits and min without the addition of a vit/min sup. But it doesn't hurt to add. Pretty much the same as yours.
Take care

Hey thanks chris10. Great info.

I just looked up taurine. Where can one get it?

Looks like mama cat can't produce enough milk for the kits.
Last evening when I checked them, they acted starved, so I fed them and again this morning and this afternoon. Looks like I'm still feeding kittens. At least mama cat is taking good care of them otherwise. Took a bunch of pictures today. Have to find a place to put them.

Taurine can be found at health food stores. Like whole foods, co-ops, GNC or anywhere that you know of that has a good supply of supplements. Sometimes in a local grocery store in the vit/min section, but not all the time.

I was thinking that you could probably leave the water at 8 oz and just add a tablespoon of syrup instead of a teaspoon. Just another idea. But again yours is fine as it is. Just try to add taurine and your little ones will be fine.

Take care

Looks like mama cat is getting with the program. Yesterday I only fed 120ml vs: the previous 200ml/day.

They are very active, climbing in and out of the nest and generally roaming around then back to mama cat for naps.

As soon as I get the pics resized, I'll start adding them to my album.
