one of my girlfriends kittens has a eye infection....got it tuesday, went to the vet Thursday, I didnt think too much of it but I saw the kitten tonight.......the eye is horrible, its swelled up, open but it looks like the eyelid is raw and the eye is watery.....the vet gave her vetropolycin(bacitracin-neomycin-polymyxin veterinary ophthalmic ointment).....it must really irritate her since she scratches at it and a good amount of hair is torn away around her eye.

Her mother used to get eye infections and they always gave her pennicillin...this is the first time seeing this vet

this really doesnt appear to be a proper treatment......I"m afraid its doing/done more harm than good

what should I do?????

I have always used terramycin on my cat's eyes for infection problems. Although the stuff is expensive, it does the job. Sometimes, I have to given them Amoxicillin, in order to stop any cold-like symptoms. I have had cases where terramycin did not cure their eye infections, but amoxycillin did and there are time when I had to give some of them both meds.

I'm glad kitty has a collar. It would be pretty hard to tell if the meds were working if she kept scratching and rubbing it. Now you can start looking for improvement, and if you don't see any, call the vet. Sometimes, as others have said, another antibiotic is needed.

well its been a week now and she still has krusty eye goobers everytime I go to put the med in the eyes, they do look a little better. She has no runny noise or any sneezing but when I'm holding her to put the med in the eyes she has a little wheezing going on....I think I"m going to take her in again.
