So....

Am I the only one that has a smelly kitten's butt ?

They know how to clean themselves, and I have seen them cleaning that part of their body many times but, it still smells.... So I have to clean it better for them most of the time and the bad odor goes away for a while, I cant let them go near pillows and sit or you know..

I clean their litterbox twice every day...

is this normal?

Are they long haired? I know that with longhaired cats you have to shave down the fur because...er...stuff gets stuck in the fur.

Watch the litter box. See if it's squitey diarrhea-ish.

What should have been my hint that Mia had a GI tract issue was her smelley but. I even called her stinky but a few weeks ago.

Fay is a long haired cat. Absolutely no stinky butt. Mia is a Colorpoint Shorthair who developed stinky butt. The diarrhea became apparent much later. The type of parasite she had is very contagiuos to cats and can be passed to humans. With no apparent cling-ons it's worth a vet check.

Or your cat could have bad hygeine but I doubt it. It's more likely the contents that cause a strong smell.

I'm not a vet. I just had this experience.

Good on you for cleaning the box twice a day.

Caught this on a re-read.

That's not normal. Off to the cat specialist vet you go.

You can use baby wipes on them to help. My sister was taking care of a few 4wk old kittens and they weren't cleaning themselves properly so they stunk. They would get bathed every couple of days but she would use baby wipes in between.

Thanks,

I'll find time to take them to the vet but, I dont think they have diarrhea at least not yet, may be a start... Today they were doing their things in the box and the smell was strong, I had never noticed it before... I'll have to check when cleaning
