Me and my kitty have recently moved into a little studio apartment together. It’s the dead of winter right now and we live on the second floor so daily litter box cleanings aren’t ideal. I’ve recently tried to switch to Feline Pine but the poop smell is so hard to deal with! Does anyone have tips with reducing the smell (baking soda, maybe?) or other cheap sustainable kitty litter? Would a Litter Genie be a good fix for this?

I have a little trash can with a lid that I put the bags of daily scooping in. Scooping daily is really the only way to combat the smell. I mix some baking soda in with my pine pellets to help with the urine smell.

Ah, I would love to get him off dry food but sadly he hates any canned food. I have tried all brands & even had a vet prescribe specialty food last year... No dice. Thank you for the advice though

There are flushable litters. I flush everything down the toilet, and I scoop pee cakes and poop twice a day. When it comes to fully cleaning the litter, I put it all in a trash bag and take it out that moment.

What flushable litter do you use? I’ve read about some causing plumbing issues and I want to be sure I’m using environmentally friendly products as much as possible.

I use World's Best Cat Litter. I want to point out, it is far from the world's best cat litter lol. I actually will be switching over soon to a cat litter that is also flushable but does not have as much dust. It's called Sustainably Yours, and as you can tell it is sustainable and environmentally friendly. It is supposed to be better with dust tracking as well. I heard this from a cat-owner friend of mine who has multiple cats.

Look at a Litter Genie or Litter Locker. I've been using a Litter Locker II for years. Every morning I scoop the little "cakes" into and really haven't noticed a smell. Then each week, I remove the filled bag and throw it in the trash.
