I was told that kneeding was a cat's way of bonding with you. It's certainly a freindly action (better than biting, lol).
With my four cats, Seven & Leeloo do it a lot and Cassie and Gracie never do it, although they are friendly in other ways. I adopted Seven & Leeloo when they were young, but adopted Cassie and Gracie when they were adults. Maybe that explains the difference.
