My cats love the laser pointer, but they eventually give up chasing it because they can't seem to catch it. I think they like the feather toy better because it gives them something to attack once they finally catch it! :D

I've used a laser pointer in the past-but my cats too tend to tire of it when they realize they can't catch hit. Gracie's toy of choice is the Cat Dancer.

Yeah, I think Cat Dancer is awesome! Justin goes crazy for it. Stormy likes it also but she doesn't get a chance to play with it when Justin is around because he will just end up jumping on top of her to try to get at it!
I also like that I can tape the Cat Dancer so that it's hanging off the counter. My kitties will see it swaying a bit and play with it until they pull it down. Great for lazy cat owners because it doesn't require you to do anything!

I've been using a cheap alternative to a laser pointer.

One day I was playing with our kittens in the family room and while moving my arms and wrist, my watch caught the light streaming in throught the windows.. they began to chase this reflection immediately as it bounced over the floor...

Pretty soon I started to purposely use my watch as something for them to chase.. both my kittens enjoy it, and I haven't used it long enough at any one time for them to get bored with it.

Every other day or so I do the same thing and they love the game each time.

Cheers,

bp

you can find a laser store at probably any office supply store.

cujo LOVES his laser pointer, sometimes he will jump up on the desk (where he knows he's not supposed to be) look at me, and very deliberately knock the laser pointer onto the floor.

my cats LOVE laser pointers. you can find them on ebay for dirt cheap. i think i got mine on ebay for about $6 and it came with 2 sets of batteries and 50 different shape fittings. 2 of mine prefer the plain dot pointer, while the other goes bonkers over a smiley face.

i go through so many batteries its not even funny...i'd suggest getting the kind that runs off AA or AAA batteries instead of the little flat batteries.

my cats whine and smack at the wall when they want me to get the pointer out. lint will even smack it off the table and start pawing it around. they never get sick of it, they'll chase it until they pass out from exhaustion!

hehe one time...this was completely on accident...i shined the pointer in such a way that lint jumped in the garbage can chasing after it! he's known to leap about 6 feet up the wall to chase it. this one time, he landed right in the garbage and was SO mad at me.
