It's been three days since I brought home Moxy my 9 week old Boston Terrier...and Lux took one look at her...hissed and ran upstairs never to return....We had to move her food and water up there and think I might move her scarctching post as well. We go and play with her at night (currently we are remodeling the second floor and have our bed in the finshed basement) but she won't dare come down the steps...I am worried about her...Any advice?

how did you introduce them?

I would suggest putting your cat in a room and bring the new dog to the door the cat can smell the dogs scent and vice versa

also how old is your cat? Is he/she outgoing or timid when new people/things come into the house

Well, it all started when I brought home the crate for Moxy. My dad had used it for his dog when she was a puppy, but now gave it to me. I put the crate in the living room. She must of smelled dog because that's when she headed upstairs. The next day is when we got Moxy. When I first brought her home Lux was still upstairs from the crate incedent. Later, Lux got brave and came down. She must have not seen that I was holding the puppy...but when she did, she hissed and ran back up. That was on Saturday...Lux is still sulking and hasn't come down.

how old is lux?

Sometimes the process of intermingling animals can be painful.

Has lux has any bad experiences with dogs in the past?

The main thing I would do right now is get some treats that lux loves and go upstairs and spend a lot of time with him. He will probabily smell the dog on you and start getting used to the smell. Hes got a lot of emotions going on right now most likely. Hes scared of the dog of course but he could also be afraid hes going to lose his territory.

Luxy (a 'she' ) Is 2 years old. I don't know if she has had any bad dog experiences because she was a stray that we rescued. She is usually not bery shy and comes to greet all house guests, but just not puppy house guests! I WOULD give her treats, but there is NOTHING she like, trust me, I've tried them all! She even snubed tuna and chicken...She is just very picky I suppose.
I guess time will tell!
