Hey guys,

Meet Rocky!.. This handsome cat is 2 years old, who was surrounded by his previous family for not tolerating and fighting with their other cat (hence me calling him Rocky!).

This is his first day in my small apartment (a huge difference from his cage though). Given that my place is a one bedroom with a den (which I use as an office), I turn the den into his sanctuary room by placing my foot stool and large boxes in the entrance so he can feel safe.

Rocky and I have met a week ago in the shelter, and I have visited him a couple of time until he was cleared medically. So it seems he is not terrified by my presence rather the new environment. We played together, he ate a bit, he got pet quite a better and had naps, two of which were not on his bed haha (how typical).
He went exploring the rest of the apartment, so I think thats a good thing, but he is obviously scared as he felt like spending sometime under the couch and in a bit of darkness on the office's arm chair. he was born on August 10, 2014, which means I just missed his birthday.

Hopefully we will have many more together !!
He purrs a lot when he comes close to me, I am hopeful that this is a good sign.

Pretty kitty! Thank you so much for adopting a shelter cat. Don't take his nervousness personally... he's one small animal in a big new place with a big new person (yes, you met before, but this is a bit different) so give him time. It may take a month, it may take a week, one never knows.

Welcome to Cat Forum and thanks for the pics, they're cool.

So you know his birthday, how unusual. Many people only know the "Gotcha" date. ;)

Thanks.. Yeah, I wanted to get a shelter pet as these animals don't have a home.
He was at a home prior to being surrendered thats why, I am assuming they have a specific birthdate for him.
I am actually very impressed with how friendly he is. He has definitely recognized the den as his sanctuary room as while he was roaming around the apartment he got close to the door, heard some footsteps which got him scared, so he ran back to his sanctuary area.
It was also a good advice from the shelter to keep his box (same box he's been sleeping in at the shelter). this way he knows that this area is safe.

I am open for advice. He's been on Purina diet and is the picky eater apparently. This is something we will need to work at, but of course, after he gets used to the place. One step at a time..

Purring while playing with me is a good sigh, right?

The fact that he is playing with you at all is a good sign. He could be hiding. :) It sounds like he's got the idea you are his Person, even if he does scoot sometimes if you do something he didn't expect..
