FOr the past week or so, he has had diarrhea... THen last night he started vomiting up his food. I thought he might have had something bad in his system, so I figgered I'd watch it for a little while.

Now he has been Vomiting liquid and having Diarrhea all day...

It came to mind that he might be drinking the sugar/water misxture my wife put into the basin for our Xmas tree...

Is it a possibility that this sugar water has been causing all the problems? Will sigar do that?

Or should I rush him to the EV?

PLease let me know.

thanks!

I would call your veterinarian as soon as possible.

The sugar/water mixture if that's all that's in there shouldn't be causing those problems. You also have to worry about the kitten getting dehydrated. This can occur very fast if he's vomitting and having diarrhea.

Please keep us posted.

This sounds pretty serious, whether it is the sugar water or not, I would advise you to call your vet and they would most likely want you to come in so they can evaluate your kitty. Please let us know what happens :!:

Was this by chance a tree bought at a tree lot? I'm with everyone else, the sugar water probably isn't causing the problem. My guess is that this tree has been treated with something, and that's what's making your kitten sick. I've heard of cats dying from drinking water out of the christmas tree base. PLEASE get this kitten to the vet, or it's very likely you'll loose him/her. I hate to put it so blunt, but I wanted you to realize how serious this is!

The kitten is at the vet right now... And the good news is, they dont seem to think it's serious...

I am expecting a call this afternoon, and will keep you informed.

Thank you all for your help and support!!

I read at their web page that they don't recommend people to use it on their pets. I'm quoting "We can't recommend Pepto-Bismol® for animals. Please check with your veterinarian if you have questions about your pet's health needs."

Read more at http://www.pepto-bismol.com/faqs.htm#10.

I don't mean to bash at you maymariya, I just think that it was important for people to know what the manufacturer itself think about it.

Anyway nfmmalice, keep us updated on your kitten.

I would never give any human medication to a pet without talking to my vet first. That said, my vet once recommended Bepto for my dog. But human meds without speaking to your vet is a very BAD idea and might well kill your pet.

I agree totally! My vet has also told me to use Pepto once before, but I'd never give without talking to my vet first, especially where she suspects it was something in the sugar water from the christmas tree.
