I resently put our litter box in our mud room which is about 4' x 5' with a cat door.

I have read several posts here stating that one of the best clumping litters is "Everclean". Well I tried tonight and although I have not had a chance to test it's clumping ability yet, just filling the box has left the house with a dusty smell, and the mud room door is closed. You have to hold your breath just to go through the room and the cat hasn't even used the box yet.

Does "Everclean" have a dust free product, or which other good clumping litter out there would solve this?

Thanks,
Debbie

All sorts of litters can have dust, some are dusty to some people and others not.

Your best bet on average would be to go with a pelleted type of wood/paper litter, or the all silicon crystal litters for low/no dust.

I use Everclean and sometimes after I pour in a fresh batch it does smell a little dusty b/c I can smell it from a few feet away but I changed to the unscented and it works great! The litter smell goes away completely for me and when they use the restroom I don't even smell it at all unless someone didn't cover. Everclean is still a bit dusty but so is alot of other brands to me. I used to use Arm and Hammer and I think Everclean has better odor control. :p

You might try Odor Lockers. It's a clumping litter that is completely biodegradable, it's made with a wood core. I'm trying it right now, it is not dusty, although I have found my cats track it just a little bit more than the traditional clumping litter.

OctoberDana: I have actually been really interested in that litter, but I have never bought it yet because of its price.

How well does it fair for your cat(s)?

I only have the littermaid now, so I'm looking for a clumping litter that will work in that box too. [/list]

Well, I've been using this litter for a little less than a week. I bought it because I was using Arm and Hammer Super Scoop and I could not deal with the smell! I was torn between trying a crystal blend and wanting to use a more natural clumping litter.

So I bit the bullet and bought a box. So far, I'm generally pleased with the smell in the box. It smells like wood so it doesn't reek even when you are scooping it.

Like I said my cats are tracking it a little bit more, which I don't like. The only other negative thing is that the pee clumps do tend to break a little more easily.

Positives: Smell!, biodegradable, flushable, consistency that cats like, no dust!
Negatives: clumps break apart easily, tracks a little more, the price is kind of high
