I need some advice PLEASE! I am fostering a cat , age 6 months who was sick the shelter told me, they gave him antibiotics and his cold finally went
away, but he was almost starved to death, he is so skinny and he wont eat anything that weve tried ti give him! He wont eat canned food,or tiny chunks like Whiska's, he wont eat dry food either . I however got him to eat tuna, but I know he shouldnt eat that much!! I am giving him vitamins also. I noticed when he eats the tuna, he makes this awful crunching noise. So I checked the inside of his mouth and his teeth are crooked and jagged. No womder he cant eat dry food. Until We can get him in for surgury, can anyone suggest something nutritious we can feed him that he doesnt have to really chew on that much!! I have been forcefeeding some canned food, but its very difficult!! Woulld appreciate any suggestions!

I do have a suggestion for you - and I hope it is going to work. Try to warm up the wet food in the microwave ( a small amount for under ten seconds) and then put it in a syringe and try to feed your little baby this way.
There were also times when fed sick kitties from the tip of my finger.
Why was he sick of ?

Help My Cant won't Eat!

Thanks for the tip, but didnt work too well> I did however get a little luck today by juat adding hot water and a little meal. He ate a little 3 times today!! He had a cold, the vet-tech said!! But I think he wont eat because of his teeth. He.s got 3 very long teeth on each side of his mouth and they hit and grind against the others. they dont look right!!

Sounds like it is uncomfortable for the kitty with those teeth! Hopefully you can keep feeding him some wet food meanwhile and also I heard Nutrical can be bought at the petstore and if your kitty is not eating, at least put some Nutrical on his paws or let him lick some so he can get some nutrients in him. The wet food and the nutrical seem to be working. He's eating more now, and Im relieved!! He still has some weight to gain but slowly seems to be improving! Someone told me that the extra teeth were temp. and would fall out. But I have never seen such a thing!! But were very hopeful now
that he is eating again. Once he has enough weight on him, if the Vet
feels his teeth should be corrected, he will be able to breeze thriugh the
surgery! Thanks to all who gave me their advice. Hershey and I both
very much appreciate it!!

I guess I'm a bit too late to help, but since you have good news, I'm happy to hear it. For a change, you might want to try baby food meat and Nutrical. There might be a bit more variety. Please let us know how Hershey does in the future!

I don't know if it's still on the market but I remember giving vitamins to kittens to help them recover from illness. It was called Vitapet. It's like a tube of toothpaste and it smells like fish. They went crazy for the taste of it.

I'm glad your cat has started eating now. I know that my cats just love turkey and roastbeef from Deli Select. It's sliced so thin that they have no problem with chewing it. Well, actually they inhale it. Not that they're spoiled or anything... :wink:

KatFancey - My (very old) cat stopped eating awhile back due to an illness. I tried everything to no avail. She hates Nutrical, etc, Anyway, the vet gave me a can of Hills A/D, it's a special diet for both cats and dogs. It is very nutricious - and she just gobbled it - I never saw her go at anything so verociously. It is very moist and almost pureed so your little one shouldn't have much trouble chewing. Ask your vet about it - that is the only place you can get it, but I bet he will like it.
