Hello, New to the forum and hopefully we can get some advice from someone who has been there and done that . We adopted a second kitty (Charlie) that was in need of re-homing due to family health issues. He is a 2 1/2 year old Lynx Point Siamese mix. He had lived with the family from about 6 weeks old until we picked him up last week. We have one other cat, a Russian Blue mix. Our home has a split floor plan with french doors that can be closed to keep the cats separated until they get used to each other’s smell.
Charlie is very reclusive. He spends most of his time under the beds. He has begun to come to the side of the bed when you lie next to it and extend your hand. We have forcibly removed him from under the bed and gone to a room where he can't climb under anything and he responds very well to grooming with purrs and affection. Open the door and he'll bolt for the bed and under he goes. Is this normal behavior? His previous owner had said he was a shy but affectionate cat. Anything we should be doing differently?
