I am 4 1/2 months pregnant. I have 16 cats altogether, they were all rescued, fixed, and happy now. We are building a cat room in our home just for them before baby is born. I am sick of people giving me their 2 cents about my cats!   !! I want to scream. What can I tell them???? Also any suggestions on what to put in cat room? Thanks tiffany

With that many cats, it would probably be better if the walls were tiled, or easily washed. You'll need quite a few litter boxes, and probably already have them, some kitty condos, high resting places, and toys. Some people (with money) put all sorts of walkways and tunnels high up in the room, because cats like to be high in the room. It depends on how much you have to spend. It might be nice (if you can afford it) to build a very large enclosure with a screened top outside-with a kitty door to access it. You could prop dead tree limbs against the sides for them to climb and other toys to chase. They would love that!

I don't think that you should have to explain yourself to anyone as to why you have that many cats. I don't understand why they think they need to give opinions--what you do in your home does not concern them. I guess I would ignore them if they brought up the cats--or totally change the subject on them. If I had a house--I would have more cats too. People don't understand that these animals are lucky to have a place to live and that you are doing a wonderful thing to provide for these kitties! Maybe you could tell them that if they are going to talk about the cats--then not to bother coming around. If they are true friends/family--they will support you in your decisions.

I don't know exactly what people are telling you, but I am always disgusted and amazed how people think pregnant women should not have cats and get rid of them! I would be just as angry!
Jeanie's idea's are great, things for the cats to climb on. They will love it!
Good luck to you. :D

This may sound weird at first but hear me out. You do have a lot of cats ...not saying thats bad and I think that is so awesome of you to take care of those furry babies! Your going to get a reaction out of people when they hear you have that many pets and especially now that you are expecting. Just don't take it to heart. Who cares what people think. Don't expect people to change their ways for you ...change yours...just don't take offense and come up with a smart remark back to them to make them think about how critizing or ridiculous their comment was.

Anyhoo here are some things that I think would be really cool to put in a cat room.

OoOOppps heres more...
They are pretty neat stuff and the cat walks on the wall I really want to buy. Most the stuff you could make yourself if your crafty like that. Some large cat condos/trees cost hundreds of dollars so shop around if you plan to get one there are plenty of companies that you may choose from. Good Luck with your pregnancy and new cat room!

yay... kitty heaven!

one thing I know is that my cat Thor likes to sit in front of the screen door instead of the glass door in order to hear the birds and insects outside as well as see them. You could possibly install a screen that shows wildlife shows, since some cats like to watch tv (my late Myea used to be a Star Trek fan.. and she guarded the remote *jealously* heehee!). If that's too high of a budget, you could always just get some nature tapes of bird calls and play that for them. And there are those little motorized kid toys that are for the bathtub... you wind them up and they swim around on the surface of the water. My cat loves those!!! And they come in shapes like fish and little boats. It's especially funny if you tie a string on the end ;D have fun with your cat colony!!!! I know I'm jealous.

As for people who are nosy and pushy with their opinions... you should say "oh man... you're right, it IS a ton of cats. Honestly, if people took HALF as good care of their few children as I do of my many cats there would be a lot more well-mannered people around!" :)

ciao!

It's so wonderful that you care for so many rescued cat and also come up with money to have them all fixed.

Even though you are pregnant, expert says (I think I read it on Purina, or some cat food company's website) there is no danger to you or your unborn baby to keep cats as pet, as long as someone will be handling the litterboxes while you are pregnant.
