I have a 19 year old cat. She seems to be whining more and more. She is still pretty playful and still jumps on the bed. She’s losing her footing a bit. But lately the whining is way worse and she seems to be peeing somewhere else than the litter box. I’ve only noticed this twice in the last 8 months. I’m not sure what to do.

19 yrs. is a great age for a cat, and a testament to your good care of her. Cats can get dementia like humans, and I think this is what she is showing. One of my old cats when she was 17 yrs., would go into an empty room and howl, and when I went to her she would chirp and follow me out. It was as if she couldn't figure out how to leave. She also was losing her hearing. As far as peeing inappropriately, if you only have one litter box, then get a couple more and put them in different places in your home.....not altogether in a row. You could also use some "cat attract litter" (Amazon has a big selection). Hopefully this will encourage her to use the litter boxes again. As a last ditch solution, use a baby diaper (newborn size?). I had a stud cat that was a bad sprayer in the house and it was a solution for him and allowed him to enjoy family time. All the Best!
