Hello!

I have 4 beautiful 2 day old kittens and a year and a half old queen :)

Mama cat has had a hard summer. She's been full of fleas since she first escaped. Depsite the fact we have given her tablets and even topical treatments, she's loaded with them. I have been using a flea comb on her, but it seem we have eggs all over our house. I have washed everything in VERY hot soapy water, and I have yet to see an improvement :( Our dog is quite bad too. She gets a bath every week to try and reduce the number.

After checking the kittens ( And attempting to take NICE pictures ) I realize they have quite a lot. I can only see them when I look at their bellies. I know that I cannot give them treatments, and can only use the flea comb, but I'm quite worried they will get anemic.

It kinda helps all of them are quite large, though.

Personally I would get them all to the vets for some treatment, in my experience vet stuff is the best, you can order it online but the kittens being so young really need vet advice, also you will need to treat your house, acclaim is a good spray for the house though obviously no pets can be in the rooms when you use it.

Our cats were going nuts with fleas, and monday night we bought a pill called Capstar you can get it at petsmart (you have to ask for it)

with in 30 min we were finding dead flea's falling off the cats, its friday now and we have not seen one flea. I know it only kills the adult flea, but you can give capstar evey 24 hours here is some info on it Capstar Flea Tablets for Pets - Capstar Flea Pills and Capstar For Fleas from petco.com

You need to contact your vet immediately and ask which products can be safely used on and around newborn kittens. You are correct to be concerned about anemia in the kittens. Heavy flea infestations can kill young kittens in short order. Don't use ANYTHING that hasn't been recommended by your vet.

It's been a long time, but once our cats got fleas quite badly after bringing home a flea-infested kitten.. getting rid of them was horrible, and as far as the house, we had to resort to using one of those flea bomb things.. the kind you have to set up and then have everyone leave the house (cats included). Twice. But, they probably have better options now.

Hi Kylan !
Please read laurief 's post again. When kittens have fleas, time is everything by way of saving them from anemia. They can go downhill in a flash!

Are there cat rescues nearby? They might give you some safe kitten flea remedies. Perhaps a SPCA?

Your kittens' lives really do depend on your taking action right away.

Somehow, those fleas have to go asap!

unless you can get all the fleas killed, your kittens will just continue to be affected, and you have to make sure that if you give the mother cat anything that it will be present in her breast milk.

unfortunately, there's no way around calling a vet.

Get some food grade diatomaceous earth asap! Human safe and cat safe. Sprinkled on their area and rub a little bit into their skin. They will feel a little dry but it is normal. It is safe to be taken internally so no need to worry about them licking it off. This should also be given as a natural dewormer since they most likely have worms from the fleas.

Food grade diatomaceous earth is 100% safe to give (I give to my own kitten) and can be found at healthy type pet stores, feed supply stores, or even garden nurseries. It is often time mixed with chicken feed (and even people food) to keep bugs out. Again, 100% safe, no chemicals. It is also very inexpensive and lasts absolutely forever.

When I fostered 5 five day old kittens, they were riddled with fleas. They even gave fleas to my cat. I had to bathe my cat with Dawn and flea comb/bathe the kittens. I also flea bombed the apartment and washed all the towels and bedspreads with hot water. The kittens had no fleas after that.

Fleas are tough litter buggers and can multipy fast! And there's a lot of dogs/cats, that if bitten only once can have severe reaction! In Central Or. we don't have to worry about fleas much, but we keep our eyes out for ticks!
Fleas are little vampires when it comes to
sucking blood and can easily cause anemia in kittens and puppies!
