I recently got a new kitten, my first pet actually, Rupert, and he's been amazing! Aside from one litter box accident, he's been as well behaved as I could have hoped for--well, aside from waking me up at night, but I'm working on that one...

My question is, he LOVES to sit on my lap, especially when I'm on the computer (he's asleep on it right now, curled into me)... sometimes though, my arms get a little tired typing over him. Since he usually falls asleep, I've tried putting him in his bed beside the chair, but usually he just walks out and jumps right back on my lap. I still want him to sit on my lap most of the time, but sometimes it just gets to be too hard to type without a sore arm, hehe. Any suggestions on what to do with him to keep him away for a little while? (Also, I've tried putting him near the toys he likes. Generally he doesn't care.)

I also have a cat like that. When I have to do something, as much as I hate to hurt his feelings, I kiss his head and tell him I'm sorry, but I have to put him down now. It makes me feel better, even if he doesn't understand. Congratulations on the new kitten! I hope you're enjoying the forum. :) Why don't you introduce yourself in the "Say Meow" forum?

Its great you have a lap kitty but what my bf does is scoot up real close to the computer desk and avoid looking at Sugars eyes b/c she will jump up on his lap and she is really warm! Sometimes you just want to be left alone so he puts her down and plays the laser light for a few seconds and she usually goes to her own spot.

New kitten lap sits too much

Maryam82 - I wish my Jimmy was a lapkitty, too. Like yours, he's very active -but he does sleep on us. He started off sleeping on our feet, but now he's moved up to the thighs - so maybe there is hope. :) He's four years old, but we've only had him 3 months.
