Hey...
my parents just bought a really expensive leather couch. i have two male cats, one kitten and one that is 1 or 2 years old. they like to play and sometimes they run across the couch and try to change directions (or something like that) and there are scratches and gouges all over the couch... ...they don't do it on purpose....but besides covering the couch, is there any ideas out there to prevent this? thanks.

Keep their nails clipped short (both front and back paws). Maybe consider using Soft Paws on them.

thank you guys so much for your help! i looked up soft claws online and they looked like a great idea, because today my mom and i were talking about getting rid of my kitty.... . in the meantime i will trim his claws, and thanks again you guys!

Make sure you know how to trim claws properly...you don't want to cut the quick (the pink part you can see inside the claw)...it will bleed like crazy.

Here's link that describes it well (with photos too). If you still have trouble you may want your vet to show you how. It may take a while for your cat a while to get used to it. Make sure you touch/hold their paws often. Also give them treats afterward so they associate a positive experience with it. You may have to clip one or two nails at a time at the beginning. It also helps to get them when they're sleepy.

You'd consider giving away you cats.... for a lounge chair? :?

um, would YOU want to get rid of your adorable little orange and white striped kitty? doubt it! i was just trying to stay on a good note with my mom. i mean, how much control did you/do you/will you have over your parents when you were/are/will be 16? he isn't a very well behaved cat anywyas, although he is a sweety....

Well...if he's your cat....that's your responsibility isn't it? There are many things you can do to influence his behavior....I'd suggest getting a couple good books on cat behavior (Think Like a Cat is one).
