Hi all! I so hope you can help me out.

I am mother to two 8 month old cats. I haven't gotten them spayed or neutered yet. They are scheduled to go in this week. My thing is this. For the past month my Dante has done nothing but try to mount Shadow. If she's not with him (ie she's in the bedroom) he will meow and yell and cry constantly for her. If she is with him he is all over her. She growls and hisses and runs from him all the time until I take pity and let her go into a room and close the door, at which time he starts yelling again. I know she's not in heat right now, but this is getting crazy. He yelled all nite last nite. Noone here got any sleep. (LOL except for maybe the ferret) Will neutering stop this awful behavior? We can't split them up. We tried that. They both missed each other too much.

On another note...where dante is very loud and very vocal, Shadow can barely manage a squeak. She opens her mouth to meow but nothing comes out. Ever. Is this common or could there be a problem?

Just very curious. Thank you for any help you might have.

sorry about your kitty problem :(
i haven't had that problem with my males kitties before they got neutered, but i would assume it would alleviate the problem.

i used to have a female cat that couldn't meow, when she did it was like a whisper, no medical cause for it though i guess it was how she was!!
maybe it's a female thing??!!

hey, i have ferrets too!!! :D

sorry i can't be of more help though.
i hope your boy calms down after the surgery.

Welcome to the forum!!! :D

Are your cats related by blood?

It is a very good idea to get them fixed as soon as possible. 8 month olds and even as young as 5 or 6 month old cats can get pregnant. If your cats are related by blood the kittens would most likely be deformed.

Hopefully your girl is not pregnant, it really sounds like she wants nothing to do with your boy....so that is a good sighn. If they have mated you can still have her aborted as long as you take her in very soon.

Keep us posted on how it turns out ok!

If possible keep them seperated until they are fixed. You wouldn't want to come home and realize she went into heat and they had mated  . You'd have a real cat circus on your hands . Neutering should stop the behaviour, or at least lessen it considerably. Hopefully everything works out fine!

Having them spayed/neutered should almost certainly alleviate the problem. Important to recognize, though, that sometimes mounting is not related to sexual behavior but is an effort to show dominance. It's not as common in cats as in dogs, but it can still be considered normal. In these cases, you just have to let the two work it out, intervening when things get too rough, as you have been. I'd keep the male in a bathroom or laundry room, away from your bedroom, with food, water, and litter if he's keeping you up all night. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, many breeders find that's the only way they can get sleep with a whole male in the house. :)

As far as the tiny meows, that's usually normal. Sometimes it can be caused by a sore throat, but if it's always been that way, it's probably just her own unique voice.

my boy tried to mount one of my female kittens. they are all booked into the vets in 2 weeks time to be fixed. i know my female isnt in season, it just something he does. he does try to "go for it" just mounts her. I also have one itten with the tinyest meow ever, she opens her mouth and barely any noise comes out. i guess its just like some people, some have a liud voice, others near silent :)

Jerry almost never meows...I cant even remember the last time I heard his voice lol. The only time he ever says anything is when the kids try to pick him up, then he sorta lets out a mroww. His voice is really husky...like a old woman who has smoked all her life.

thanks for all the advice. I'm taking them in on the 6th to be spayed and neutered. Dante seems to have calmed down this week. I think he's scared of Shadow. She gave him a pretty nice scratch on the nose.

To watch the two of them...I think SHE is dominant kitty and he is jealous. Ha Ha. And he uses his big voice to intimidate.
