I just found this: www.vegetariancats.com

There has never been a study about vegetarian cats before. Now Purina has funded a cage-free vegetarian cat study. It is from June-August. I will be looking forward to the results

Hmmm... I wonder how a 3 month study will conclude long-term effects  . I thought feeding trials had to be done for at least 6 months? I look forward to the results as well, but cannot take them without a grain of salt because the testing time is so short.

SORRY, I forgot to mention, they only take cats who have been on a vegetarian diet for more than a year. If you go to their website, they say that the cat must be on a vegetarian diet for more than a year.

My friend who has a vegetarian 15 year old cat is doing this.

I don't like Purina either, but at least we will know more about vegetarian cats thanks to them.

Yes, I'll be interested to see this one! "Vegetarian" includes eggs and dairy, good sources of animal protein, so it won't be as good a comparison as if they did a vegan study, but it will be fascinating to see what they find!

Cheers,
Dr. Jean
