My new 10 month old kitten rarely "meows". Instead, he usually makes more of a grunting sound and occasionally when he seems to want something bad he makes this weird "cawing" sound, almost like a crow. I know not all cats meow, but has anybody else had a cat making sounds like this? He's the happiest cat I've ever met and is almost purring so I doubt something is wrong, but I'm just curious.
I can't offer any suggestion why your cat can't meow properly
but just thought I'd tell you about one of my parents cat who didn't meow until she was 3 years old, and she didn't purr either
we assumed she had a problem with her voicebox, but then one day she meowed and then later she purred we were amazed
after that we couldn't shut her up
it could be a voicebox problem
it sounds sweet to me
one of my cats does a double meow, se goes 'memeow' it is really sweet
His noises are kind of cute. It's almost like he doesn't know how to meow and is still learnings. He's still young and I recently adopted him from a foster family who said he had been a stray. So maybe he's just learning how to meow since living with people.
some cats do not meow in the traditional form. But when they want something from you bad enough, he will make some kind of noise.
