Ok. The cats sleep with us at night time in our room. The litter box is in our closet which is why they stay in at night. Well they usually get a burr up their butt at some points and decide that they want OUT of our room at night and Nero usually starts trying to make "portals" through our door, til we threaten his existence if he doesn't stop usually accompanied by a poorly aimed item such as a pillow (never makes it off the bed as its a body pillow and awkward) or an empty water bottle.

We are thinking about installing one of those doggy doors into our bedroom door. But im not sure, do cats get the function of a doggy door? Is it a good or bad idea? We dont want to do it if it wont work as it means we have to replace the door when we move.

opinions?

Why not just leave the door open?

And yes, cats can use a doggy door. May take some training, but they'll get it....

Because the dogs are also in our room and we dont trust them to not eat the house while we sleep.

How about propping the door open just wide enough for the cats to get out, but keep the dogs in (assuming the dogs are bigger)...a couple door stops wedged under the door from each side might work. Or will the dogs eat the door edge?
