Old cat is too energetic at night

My wife leaves for work early in the morning and really needs her sleep. However, our scrappy old cat Scab (he's 16) has a bad habit of getting overly excited at night, keeping her up. We can't put him out of the room at night, because he jumps up on stuff he isn't supposed to. He spends most of his time in our room sleeping, and although we hang out with him (along with the company of our other cat, who is younger and goes in/out), he seems over stimulated at night. What can we do to ensure that he'll be less active at night?

Does he sleep all day making him ready to play at night ? That’s a tough one. My cats have always slept through the night TG. If you can’t ignore him maybe ask the vet about some night time sleepy treats ? There are calming treats . Maybe try giving him a couple before bed. Play with him for 20-30 min before bed time to wear him out. I have my 15 year old cat chase string , hunt for treats , and I brush her every night before bed. She always is ready to sleep after all that ! I feed her can food little before bed time to since most cats take naps after eating. Good luck !

Forgive my silly question, is it possible that he is just hungry? My cats get quite excited when they are hungry.

Given his age..
It could be the increased activity and noise is due to thyroid issues.. Quite common for older cats to become hyperthyroid..
Common symptoms are... increased noise at night, increased hunger, increased activity at night..
Might be worth a vet visit.. :)

He only matches the hyperactivity as far as hyperthyroidism symptoms go. His bowel movements are healthy, he's really overall in good shape. It's just odd that he seems hungry all the time even though he is well-fed. I think calming treats could work along with some extra play at bedtime. Any recommendations for calming treats?
