I just got back from the vet and they confirmed my worst fears. Orlando has a tumor in the sinus area. At least an extremely good chance that he does. I will not be taking him to a specialist to confirm. Mostly because we can't afford to (Hubby has extreme medical issues and has not worked for over a year) and also because I would not put him through the torture of treatment just to give him an extra month or so of life.
Now it is time to love him and make his life as comfortable as possible. The new vet seems to be very good and very understanding. (we just moved into the area a week ago)
I am just heartbroken. Orlando is such a special boy.:-( They should have one of these d&**** icons for absolutely devastated.

You have my full sympathy for your family.

I think that not unnecessarily prolonging a life is both the hardest, and the most sensible decision.

I'm still beating myself up over Zenobi even though I know she was suffering and I know I made the right choice. It's just that the doubts creep in occasionally.

He looks to be a handsome cat. I really am very sorry to hear this news.

Yes, lots of love is the way to go now.

Hugs and love to all of you as you face the times ahead.

You made the right choice in not going to a specialist. When my dog Bailey was diagnosed with advanced liver failure I took him out of the hospital (he was there for testing only) and chose to not do any further testing. He spent quality time at home getting lots of love. It was so very special. Putting their needs ahead of yours is a sign of pure love and devotion to the animals who have given us so much.

Thank you everyone. Kind words from friends who have been there and know how heartbreaking something like this is are such a comfort.
Orlando is on antibiotics because the tumor was causing an infection in his nasal cavity. The day after we went to the vets was not good. He didn't even want to eat. Today he has seemed much better, probably because the antibiotic has had a chance to work. He wanted to eat almost all day, so he got as much kitty crack (Fancy Feast) as he wanted. He even saw a bird outside the window and acted like he would love to go get it. I hope he has lots more days like today.

Poor Orlando. Tobys tumour invaded his nasal cavity as well. I know it tends to be frowned upon but 'pulse-dose' antibiotics and steroids helped him no end and got him eating again for a good month or more.

I'm sorry to read this, Sue. It must be heart-wrenching to watch this play out. Orlando is such a good boy and so cute, and I know he's had a great life to this point.
