Here is Mi Mi sitting at the top of the basement steps.
We need to keep the basement door shut,
she has learned very quickly this is her escape route from dogs or kids.

Here is the inside of the upstairs hall closet and her new litter area.
We cut a hole in a HUGE Rubbermaid storage container.
The previous tenants had a washing machine in this closet,
so the closet was a mess inside already,
we didn't mind cutting into the wall.

This is taken standing in the hallway. The gate keeps the kids and
the dog out of the litterbox, yet Mi Mi can get under it.
I will be adding a curtain and a nicer looking gate soon.

**And YES....I am ready to choke on the green linoleum in this house!
The color scheme is from early 1970's...Maybe new linoleum next year?

Man, the storage box-to-litter pan is great!!! Why hadn't I thought of that? Great job on the "escape hatch" too!!

That litter pan is brilliant! I just might have to do that.... my girls have such problems covering their business because they reach too far. They scratch and paw at the floor instead of inside the box, leaving an uncovered, stinky mess.

Thanks in advance! :D

Maybe I'll take more pics later....

That storage container sides are so high.....
The bottom of the opening we cut is about 8 inches off the floor...
the litter inside there is about 5 inches deep....
You can see how high the sides are.....
Lets see her get litter all over the floor now.

And the best part....the container was on sale for about
4 dollars and some odd cents! :D

We had a kitty escape hatch into our basement when I was still living with my parents.
No basements in New Mexico :?
