Just a nice story about how my health insurance came through for me like a knight in shining armor.

Shortly after I came home from the hospital I received a call from a collection agency for a hospital bill from 2006 that my insurance took its' time about paying. (It was supposed to be pre-approved and the hospital did not do that step before performing the service) I had worked with the hospital, going between them, my Dr and insurance to resolve the bill. I received a notice that my nsurance finally paid it late this spring and then I get this completely RUDE collection guy calling.

I explained to him that I had never received an initial bill from the hospital and I would need time to contact the hospital, my Dr and my insurance before I would pay. He insisted on knowing when I'd pay. I told him if I was responsible for the bill I would send a check out w/in the next few weeks. He offered to do a check by phone dated for any date I chose and I told him I would prefer to make my calls and then mail the payment.

He got very rude and pushy, demanding to know why I wouldn't pay. Oh, he was winding me up! ...and I'd just come home from major surgery and didn't need the stress.

I finally told him I had to make my calls to be certain he wasn't some fraudulent place trying to weasel money out of me, give me a week to make my calls and I hung up on him. A few days later I was contacted by his supervisor, who was much more polite. Anyhow, turns out when I called my insurance, I found out the hospital contracts for certain services with my insurance and they have an agreed upon price. The problem was the hospital had tried to bill me for the difference when it was supposed to be a 'provider write-off' and not charged to me at all.

Problem solved. I just wish I could have made that rude guy eat his words instead of having his nice supervisor apologizing to me for the inconvenience.

I told Super all about Rude Guy, including his name. I also called Human Resources and told them about the positive experience I had with our health insurance.
