I realized there was something about Drizzle and Boo I'd never shared with you all, and it got me curious about any out duel-or-plus cat homes that have something similar.
Of course, a story is involved. Aren't they always with me? LOL. What do you want from me, I'm a writer...
Drizzle was Born on the Ides of March, and we got him on the Ides of May, lol. Well, living in a temperate climate, air conditioning is usually needed from about... oh, since Global Warming, April to October.
Well, my little man as a tot would find himself sleeping wherever he lay, and likewise usually freezing his little tail off. I didn't want him to get sick, but without the air, he (and I) would no doubt overheat. So I did my best to locate him once he'd drifted off and cover him up. This didn't always work, and a few times we'd find him (or he'd find us) shivering from sleeping in a draft.
So finally, about August or so, I formulated a plan. The kittens both had been, earlier in the year, sleeping on an afghan blanket that was made for a baby doll toy or some such. It's only about 3X3 feet. We'd tossed it on a chair and they'd both found it and plopped down, so it of course instantly became thiers.
Well, neither Drizzle or Boo ever had a "prefence" when it came to sleeping spots. They both own Kitty Beds, and rarely use them. They both like our beds, but still, rarely use them. They had a recliner chair we wheren't using that we let them have, but that was right in a draft and they'd begun to get bored with it.
So, I went into action on a whim. I found a large afghan blanket my Grandmother made, freshly washed, lol, and folded it up. I then found a clothes basket, and put the blanket in. The final touch was the baby doll sized afghan, which had Aroma de Kitten.
So then I began my grand experiment. I'd find Drizzle asleep, I'd put him in the basket. He'd jump out and run off. Find him asleep, put him in the basket, he'd stay for a bit, then run off. We did this for 4 or 5 days until by the fourth day he'd just stuck around and slept in the thing for upwards of 6 hours. Finally, the fifth day was the big payoff.
On his own accord, sleepy little Gus-gus (his nickname when he's tired, lol) wandered over to the basket, looked at me, looked at it, and jumped right in. I praised his good behavior, bundled him up like the tot he is, and he dozed, right next to me on the computer, for hours on. I can now keep them warm or cool, keep an eye on them, and keep them happy and comfy and close and safe all with ease, of thier own choice.
Ever since, he continues to do this. Three or four weeks ago, or maybe more, Boo joined in. She realized, "Hey, that MUST be a good spot if he keeps sleeping there" and now, she too, sleeps in this basket. It's adorable. It's become THE prime peice of real estate in the house. They find the other in it, they look like, "Aw, ****! You stole my Basket!"
They've worked out a system lately, though, I've noticed. Drizzle enjoys snuggling sleeping peoples legs, so at night Boo takes the basket and he takes a person. During the day, whoever gets there first (or while it's unoccupied) gets it. On the rare occasians, they've even shared it and snuggled together on a cold winters night. My Boo baby loves to keep my company on my long night-owl nights.
So, anyway, I was curious - any one else have Prime Real Estate? A spot both cats desire above all else?
