I have been thinking about getting a Littermaid box but I'm a bit apprehensive for a few reasons.

First of all, my cat is very particular about his litterbox and litter. Does anyone else have a finicky cat that accepted or rejected the Littermaid?

Secondly, my cat likes to urinate on the side of the box. The clumps I scoop are many times stuck to the side of the box and must be shaken loose as to avoid breaking up the clump. Does anyone with a Littermaid have a cat that urinates on the side of the box?

My concern is that the automatic rake will end up breaking up the urine clumps because they stick to the box, leaving behind many small pieces that the rake would not pick up.

Any ideas or suggestions on this? Thanks

My cats took to the Littermaid immediately. But they prefer to use a back corner to urinate and defecate. I have no idea why. On occasion, only if I have not emptied the receptacle on time, I will find some clumps on the floor beside the preferred corner. For that reason, we have a large plastic runner under the box. I would recommend that for any kind of litter box, however. That problem is my fault. The reason you still have clumps, even if your cat urinates on the side, is that the combs push the litter in a mound ahead of them, and that coats any moisture on the side and makes it clump. (That's my experience, anyway) As the combs lift to the receptacle, the loose litter falls out. Then, on the way back, the combs smooth out the clean litter and make it level.

Oh, you might want to buy a large box of baking soda. Some people use it on the bottom of the box to prevent any sticking and help with odor. I don't use it, but it sounds like a good idea. I use Arm and Hammer litter.

Amos, it's possible you bought the size for only one cat. I had one of those, and couldn't understand what I was doing wrong as my kittens grew into cats! I still have it. I bought the big one from my niece. She sanitized it, of course. I should put my small one in the paper.
