I started feeding my cat Sunny a raw diet in December/January, so I haven't dealt with this in the hot weather yet. I am a bit concerned with his eating pattern now, as he likes to graze a bit with the raw. He can take up to an hour to eat his food. He eats the majority of it pretty much right off, but then goes back for a piece or two here or there until he is finally finished.

I was okay with that in the cold weather, but now I'm unsure if leaving it out that long is okay. It especially grossed me out this morning because I looked over and saw a fly light on his dish. Anyone have an opinion/solution?

If you're really concerned take the food up after 20-30 minutes. He'll catch on quick.

The truth is that if it goes off he probably won't eat the rest. And an hour is still pretty quick, so it should be ok anyways. (although it may attract flies...)

Good to know that he probably won't eat it if it goes off. Sometimes I have to leave for work after I feed him so I depend on my husband to pick up the food before he leaves, and he doesn't watch the time as closely as I do so I won't worry too much.

I would pick up the food after 20-30 min but then he would probably go and eat Mystique's food as he has decided that regular old cat food is good for a snack lol. He will push Mystique out of her dish and she will let him, although he sometimes gets a bat on the head for his trouble. I would really prefer not to do the separate rooms thing, so I think I'll just leave it down for the hour for now and try not to worry.
