I made my first batch of raw about 4 days ago, my nursing cat loves it. Took right to it and has been very demanding of more servings. Because she is nursing should i comply with her demands because they say they eat more nursing. Or should i stick to 3 times a day? She could probably eat it 6 times a day if i let her... The kittens are now 3 weeks old, and is it ok to start them on a raw food diet or are their systems more delicate to processing it? They are getting their chompers now and show interest in meals mom eats but only one attempts to eat a bite.

Nursing moms definitely need a lot more food...otherwise it's a lot of stress on her body. How much? Probably as much wet food as she'll eat? Not sure, though...perhaps someone else can give you more pointers...I've never had a nursing kitty or had to care for infant kits...

Hand in there! :)

Nursing moms get as much food as they want while they are nursing.
Babies are still a bit young for weaning onto raw food.

You could start the weaning process next week. None of the raw feeders I talk with wean directly to raw. Most use either kibble or wet food mixed with milk replacement. Each week they change ratios so less milk replacement and more food. Once the kittens are eating ...about 8 weeks old..., then they go to raw if they are able to be home a lot (as kittens that age eat frequently). Good luck!

i have helped my mother with 4 previous sphinx litters. But this is the first time doing raw with the 4 i have. So just wanted to make sure it was ok, i did get some kitten wet food and milk replacer which mom wants it now over the raw food. >.<
