Well, Riley has made a 180 degree turnaround during the night! It was such a nice surprise to wake up to this morning!

He's had his 2nd shot, today he'll get another one. He breathes so much quieter now and his energy has come back and he's ready to explore.

I still had to feed him by hand this morning, but I didn't have to restrain him... he willingly licked it down.

I could dance a jig!!! :2kitties My little boy kitty is feeling better! YAY!

A gross thing happened last night... There was a worm coming out of his rear! I just about barfed! It was a long thin almost clear, segmented thing. What kind of worm would that be? Is that a tapeworm? 8O

I just got back from the Emergency Room with Cleo. The good news for you is that if it is a tapeworm, the remedy is one pill that costs about $16.00. You should save it, and a stool sample, for a vet visit.

I'm glad to hear that Riley is feeling better.
I'm sure you are feeling much better too!

The worm definately sounds like a tapeworm. I agree that it would be a good idea to save the worm and take a stool sample in for the vet. When Sadie had a tapeworm, all it took was one dose of Drontal. I think the pill only cost me $6, but my vet has very low prices.

I have a feeling everything costs more at an Emergency Room. :?

I have my Drontal compounded into a chicken-flavored liquid (although it must still taste pretty bad, judging from the cats' reactions....). Costs me about $3 per 10# dose.

I stopped in at the vet today and asked for some wormer for Riley. He just GAVE it to me, no charge! 8O I love this place! LOL

I didn't ask what the name of the medicine was... it was a creamy yellow colored liquid in a syringe... 1/2 cc. And it was an oral medication. Does this sound like Drontal? One dose should do it.

It is so fun watching Riley! He bounces and runs everywhere! He figured out that he could run on Saturday night and had tons of fun, skidding and sliding on the kitchen floor. I don't suppose he's been free to run for ages since he's been at the animal shelter for most of his life. And he goes bonkers for catnip! Cookie and Ellie aren't phased by catnip at all, so now I know what people mean now when they talk about cats acting high on catnip! Riley definitely gets high off of it! LOL

Cookie still spits and hisses and takes every opportunity to bop Riley on the head. Ellie doesn't hiss anymore, unless Riley races up to her and surprises her.

Oh no....sorry to upset your good mood....that's Strongid (pyrantel) and it doesn't work on tapeworms. Did you specifically tell your vet it was tapeworm med you needed? Drontal is a pill. Back to the vet for the right stuff (not free this time, I'll bet.)

Great. I was afraid of that. He knew it was for tapeworm, but he must be one of those vets who thinks if Strongid works on horses, it'll work on cats.

I'm going to call as soon as they open. Thanks Tim.
