I am going to San Diego tomorrow!! I don't even know where I'm staying, I just know I have to be on the bus at 11 AM. I'm in the basketball pep band and we have to leave at the same time as the team so the Athletics Department doesn't have to charter two long flights. Anyways, our game is not until Thursday, so what can I do in San Diego before that? I mean, I know the San Diego Zoo, and I'd like to at least see the Pacific Ocean. Is there anything else that's a "must-do" while I'm there? I'm really excited; this is my first trip to California and my first cross-country flight.
And if you follow the NCAA tournament, please pull for Alabama Thursday night (unless you're a Marquette fan, in which case we'll have to agree to disagree)! Thanks!

The zoo and SeaWorld are good things - I prefer Seaworld a lot more. But there are more places I would highly recommend over those. And you prob aren't going to have the time or transportation to get up to D-Land or Long Beach - 2-3 hours with no traffic, which never happens btw! lol

Anyways, here are my suggestions of places you just can't miss:

La Jolla - beautiful beach!!! tide pools, etc.... you can go snorkeling in the tide pools at La Jolla Cove. It is awesome!!!
Shops that you can walk around and great restaurants.

Scripps Insitute of Oceanography is there on the bluffs as well and you can take a tour..

Hotel del Coronado (Hotel Del)- located on the beach. Awesome hotel you can walk around at. Great for pics.

Seaport Village - located on the water - great shopping and restaurants. Fun place to hang.

Gaslamp Quarter - esp for nighttime partying after you BEAT MARQUETTE! ;)

And don't forget Tijuana. San Diego is very very close to the mexican border. I live in San Diego so who knows. We might see each other and not even know it. :lol: You might also consider the San Diego Wild Animal Park where the animals have more freedom than the zoo. You'll feel like you're in Africa. Do take advantage of all San Diego has to offer and you'll have fun. :D

If you go shopping in Tia Juana, don't pay full price! It's traditional to dicker, so it's expected. I don't like dickering myself, but I have spoken to people who have shopped there. The first price is not the expected price!

Come to think of it, I AM Tia Juana! :) It means Aunt Jean. Of course Tia Juanita would be more accurate, but there is no city by that name.... :wink:

dicker=bargain

Tijuana was fun but you do have to bargain and I'm like Jeanie in that I don't like to do it; it makes me so uncomfortable.

Anyway, I hope you had a great time :) What did you end up doing?

Thanks so much everyone! Fortunately, we won our first game so I got to spend a good bit of time sightseeing. On our first full day there, we went to La Jolla and looked around. I think that was the prettiest part of the coast we saw the whole time. We saw a real, live surfer. :) The water was so cold and the beach...smelled different than the beaches I've been to on the Gulf of Mexico. Then we hit Old Town and Hotel Del Coronado. Thursday was the game, which was awesome and we won, so we got to stay. Saturday the cheerleading sponser managed to get us a bus to Hollywood and places up north, so we hit the Walk of Fame and Grauman's Chinese Theater. We stopped briefly at Laguna Beach and Rodeo Drive, and our last stop was the Santa Monica Pier. We were disappointed that we didn't get close to the "Hollywood" sign. My only picture of it is from inside the bus. Since our game wasn't until evening, I went to the zoo on Saturday. I made sure to get there fairly early and was rewarded with a great opportunity to see the pandas. There wasn't anyone there and I got to see the baby climbing a tree. We had to load up our luggage before the game so we could leave right afterwards. The game wasn't until 5 PM Pacific Time, and I got home at 5 AM Central time. I'm surprised I'm up so early.

Wow, that's really cool.

Sounds like you got to see a good chunk of Southern California. I grew up in the hollywood/santa monica area.
