Have seen these self-cleaning litter boxes for years.

What is everyone's experience with them? Are they worth the money?
Any drawbacks or potential problems?

I like the idea that Stephen could have a clean litter box 24 hours a day, but that sounds too good to be true!

In my experience they are loud when they are cleaning and they can be somewhat stinky if you dont clean them out daily which for most people is the reason to spend upwards of 100 dollars on such a contraption.

I just got one for Christmas. It broke within two days  We got a replacement though and it works GREAT. Considering I got 7 cats, I still have to clean it myself though  If this works for another month we might be getting another.

My roommate got one and loved it.
Potential problem: It freaked Stormy out for some reason. She pooped on the floor for about a week now and then. Then she got in the habit of not covering her poop (whether in that pan or a regular one). She's now more or less normal now that the pan is gone.
That probably doesn't happen with most cats, but you never know what may throw them off.

Love the littermaid, can't live without it. You still have to clean it out frequently though but worth every penny. My cats aren't scared of the motor noise and it does have it's drawbacks since sometimes things get stuck in the rake if they don't cover but of course we're never satisfied with everything are we?

I love my littermaid, though, a few days later they came out with a newer version, even of the mega littermaid, so that was a bit upsetting. =[

I only use that one litter box now for 3 cats, and I only have to empty the receptical every 2 days, which really helps on the work days when I don't have a whole load of litter boxes to take care of every single night.
