I notice Riot who has massive amounts of fur will shake when hes laying down. Kinda like hes cold. He will vibrate then stop vibrate then stop. He does eventually stop.

Is this him cold or is there possibly something else going on? I do rent out a basement with tile flooring but its not really cold down here to me...its 68 degrees

I can't imagine he's cold. I keep the heat in my house @ 50 degrees and my cats are medium hair/short haired and don't seem to ever shiver.

*I do turn up the heat if their little ears feel too icy, but never above 55.

That makes me cold just thinking about it. I keep my house at 68* when I'm gone and 70* when I'm home.
My Zuba does that sometimes, but his Devon Rex coat is fairly thin and not as thick as Alkee's. Sometimes it's because he's cold....our house is kept at 70F, and he does love to sit on the heat registers when he hears the furnace come on. Other times, he'll shiver like that when he's sitting on a lap, and it's usually before his evening meal. I don't free feed and I think he' gets a bit hypoglycemic when that happens, as after I feed him the shivering stops. Another possibility with your cat may be hypothyroidism. Keep in mind that a cat's normal body temp is equivalent to us with a fever---100.5F to 102.5F.
