I brought in a pregnant feral cat in July who was mouth breathing a lot and she blessed my home three weeks later with three kittens.

I noticed after I brought her in that she had a cough and rumbling in her chest and immediately took her to the vet with her kits. The vet gave her a Convenia injection. About three or four weeks later she developed the cough and rattle again and the vet gave her another Convenia injection. The cough and dry rattle are back. She also seems to have gained weight, but I think maybe it is fluid buildup more than weight. I talked with someone fairly knowledgeable and she thought it might be heartworms. My vet has her on doxycycline which is hard to get down to symptomatically treat if it is heartworms. Does not seem to be giving her any relief. I haven't taken her back for more xrays yet. My husband is upset because we have spent so much money for xrays (few spots on lungs) and checkups so far without any results. Has anyone been through this before?
