Sleepy eyes

My cat is about 18 months old. He is very active, happy and appears healthy.

However, I have noticed that his eyes can get a fair amount of sleep in them. Not a mass of gunk (sorry if you are eating), but every other day, I wipe out a small amount with a damp tissue (so I don't hurt him).

Is this normal? Is it just because his cleaning techiniques aren't too good? (!)

My eldest cat ****** has constantly running eyes, but she is very photosensitive and a very grand old lady. My younger cat Suki gets gunk in her eyes.

Ive managed to teach suki that when say 'sticky eyes' she holds her head up to me good and still while i gently brush it away. Shes ever so clever. ****** can be a bit more of a problem but shes not fast or strong anymore so she doesnt get a choice!!!

I think some "sleep" in the eyes is perfectly normal as long as the eye does not appear irritated. If there is excessive blinking, squinting, or redness I would have the vet check it out.

My kitty Lily almost always has "sleep" in her eyes, but she an eye condition. I have to wipe her eyes at least twice a day. If I don't wipe them for her they just get worse. I think it just depends on how well your cat grooms themself.
