Otis was actually curious about the smell so it acted to attract him more. I've tried a couple of brands, and neither worked, so I gave up...

Bitter Apple spray works for me. I bought it at Petco. The stuff in the pink aerosal spray can is a total waste. I think its called Boundary or something like that. Don't buy that one.

Some do work the problem is not for very long and you have to keep reapplying these products, big hassle, I've found and it kind of stinks up the house, too. What I have found to work well is sticky tape, you can also place a jar of coins near the area you don't want kitty access to and more natural smells that cat do not like such as citrus and lemons.. :D
