Well I have two dogs on raw and I would like to start my cat providing its not to costly. Canada meat prices are gross right now. Costs me $100 a month to feed my 65lb dog. My cat weighs 6-7lbs, is 1 year old and finished growing. Chicken is the cheapest and that would be the main meat of her diet. She shows interest in chicken but wont eat it...any ideas how to get her interested?

Also how much a day do I need to feed her and how much per month in pounds do I need?

I go to the local asian supermarket and buy a 6-pack of Quail (costs about $8CDN). Each quail is cute into 4 - 6 pieces. I feed one piece daily + an organ like liver, hearts or an extra small piece. That's about 24 portions per pack. I feed two cats with this, so it's about $10 every two weeks. =) Plus or minus organs and other things you wanna throw in.

I believe it's good to have more variety than just chicken everyday. Both of my cats don't like chicken meat anymore (I think it's because I was feeding too much of it and they got bored). Can you try purchasing turkey, beef or pork? Also, heart is considered a muscle meat and it is VERY cheap. Remember that the cat will not thrive on just chicken meat, you will need to feed organs (5% liver and 5% other organs), 10% bone and 80% muscle meat. My local asian supermarket has a lot of different type of meats like beef heart, chicken heart, duck, rabbit meat, etc. that you won't usually find in a regular grocery store. And it's cheap too. For bones, you can feed chicken wings, chicken necks, cornish game hens or quail. I have no idea about the Canadian prices; meat is so cheap in America :? . Especially organs. You should try seeing if you have an asian supermarket close to you. I am a newbie too btw :) Good luck!

I feed my 8 pound, 8 month old kitten about 2 oz of any meat in the morning with a side dish of kidney and then in the evening I give him like a chicken wing, half a quail or some cornish game hen w/ liver on the side. And then if he's still hungry I give him more muscle meat. My 10 pound, 8 month old cat gets 1.5 oz of meat per meal instead of 2 oz. I occasionally give them raw eggs or add in a omega 3 supplement, or just give them raw sardines (like once or twice per week). So basically, they get almost 4-6 oz of meat everyday. And they get fed bones like 3-4 times per week. It really depends on your cat how much they eat. My 10 pound kitten can pretty much eat 4 oz within a few seconds (which is too much considering the fact that he throws up afterward), so I have to control what he eats in order to manage his weight.

Well I know how to feed because I have a dog on it, he gets 15lbs of Chicken Quarters, 15lbs of boneless beef, 12lbs of pork tongues, 5lbs of organ meat and 1lbs of beef heart. This is per month by the way lol. This is for a highly active 70lb Belgian Malinois at 1.6lbs a day. For the cat I would just buy Chicken Wings, Ground beef and Turkey to give variety. Im going to start probably next month. I need to start experimenting on what she will and will not eat. Once I find out I will know how much of what to order :). Plus I will be fostering my friends cat for a couple years and he has agreed to supply his cats raw monthly if I can get her to eat it.

So how cant I get mine to eat raw? She isnt interested in it now. Like she will sniff if and lick it but no more lol.

Um . . . Why?? Why give ground beef at all? No need to and they need to CHEW. Just give her what the dog gets (except the chicken quarters). She can eat everything the dog eats. I recommend quail or cornish game hen instead of chicken wings, as the bones in chicken are really on the big side for cats and wings are almost all bone (not much meat).

Feeding 1 cat can be done VERY cheaply. A 10# cat only needs 3.2 oz of food a day. :) Just stick w/ 80-85% meat, 5-10% bone, and 10% organ (half of which must be liver) and you'll be good.

Your post SAYS ground beef. ???

Dogs should NOT get leg bones or other weight-bearing bones of cattle, no. They break teeth. But I don't see what that has to do w/ the ground beef issue?? Sorry, just confused.
