I started Tigger's raw diet today but I forgot to take the baggie out of the freezer so I gave her some cat food in the morning and then a days worth of meat at around 6pm. She ate every last piece but by 9pm she was hanging round the kitchen meowing for food.. Did anyone else experience this when they switched to raw food? I think the portions look tiny as it is and her been hungry isn't helping my guilty conscience! She's making me feel like I'm starving her! She's 11 years old and weighs 8lbs, I give her 73g per day. I actually gave her a chicken wing tip aswell today so abit more than 73..

Reassure me please catforum :(

If I figured right thats only 2.5 ounces. Which is only 2% of her body weight. The only thing you can do is try that amount for a week or two and see if she gains or loses weight. If she loses go up to 3% of her body weight.

If you need to bump the amount up to 3% then go ahead, just make sure you bump the amount of organs and bone up to 3% as well. Also try and feed at least two meals a day so she does not get so hungry between meals

Were you free-feeding kibble before? It can take them a while to get used to the whole concept of being hungry -- not having food available BEFORE they actually GET hungry.

Hunger's not bad. It's the best sauce, after all. ;)

No, she's never had kibble. We would feed her a couple of times a day and she usually eats half and then goes back later. It's like after she eats her meal she hangs round like 'Where's the rest?'.

I'm just going to stick with it anyway, she goes and sleeps if she knows she can't get any but everytime someone goes in the kitchen she's there again. I'll check how much she weighs next week and then figure out what to do next :) I took a picture of her teeth today too so I can compare to a couple of months time.

I agree, weigh her. Some cats (mine, for example!) will happily try to persuade you they're POOR STARVING KITTIES five minutes after they last ate. The only way to know for sure is to see whether she's gaining or losing weight.
