I love my cat (he's a short hair orange/white tabby), but his shedding has gotten out of control. He is almost a year old and the amount of hair coming off of him is breathtaking. I purchased a (perversly named) "Love Glove" which lets you gently brush off the fur. A couple passes down his backside and the glove was covered in hair. I repeated this for over an hour and finally had to stop because I was afraid that I might brush him bald. I had nearly filled a grocery bag, and there were no signs of a slowdown in the hair loss.

Does anyone have a recommendation for how to slow or stop the shedding? I hope nothing is wrong with him. I appreciate the advice. Thanks.

That sounds like an abnormal amount of shedding--especially in the winter. Is it possible your cat has a fever? I had a collie who became quite ill, ran a high fever, and had a short coat within days! The vet said the hair loss was due to the illness and fever.

Please see your vet about this.

I don't think he is sick. He's just as chipper and playful as usual. Doesn't seem to be running a fever either.
