We just got a male kitten a couple days ago. He was found on an abandoned farm with his two brothers. When he uses the litter box to poo he makes these loud, eerie yowling sounds. I wonder if he is constipated and it hurts him? We are feeding him Kitten Chow with a can of Iam's soft kitten food a day. Is it common for kittens to be constipated, or is this just what he likes to do when he poos?

He has not has his shots yet, so we have to take him to the vet very soon anyway. Just wondering if anyone here has had a similar occurance.

Maybe he is a bit constipated, have you noticed the cat having problems when using the restroom or is the stool runny? Since you are going to the vet soon I would recommend mentioning it to the vet so they can give you a better diagnosis. Check to see if his stool is bloody also, make all observations before taking to the vet and hopefully he is just being vocal and letting you know he is going to the restroom! Keep us updated on what the vet says!

Could be cramps

Hi, I just saw your message and it is now 2 months old. Just wanted to tell you I had a cat with intestinal cancer and he would get spasms that caused him to yowl from time to time when he tried to have a bowel movement. Since your message was so old I hope by now your cat is feeling better.

Moby sorta grunts... He seems to have no trouble though using the bathroom. I thought there may have been a problem, but then I have also never had another cat like Moby who will poo in the same room as me.

Peanut has always made a little "rarr"sound when she poos. She did this even at the breeder's.

She's not shy at all either-will go to the bathroom in front of anyone!

If her "rarrs" ever sounded like she was in pain I'd have her check out. Other than that I think its just one of her cute quirks :)
