I just got a new cat from the pound, she is about 5 years old. We are not sure if it has been fixed, but we are taking her in later this week.

She is a very friendly cat. She always sleeps with me on my bed, loves jumping up on my lap, and she is great!

My problem is that she often will start crouching down with her bum in the air, and just start meowing, and twitching her feet. She always does this when she hears someone walking up the stairs, but she will also just start doing it out of nowhere. She usually does this for about 5-10 minutes, and during that time, although she still purrs and enjoys my company, it seems like she may be suffering from something...

Can anyone tell me what the problem could be?

It sounds to me like she is in heat. If she is fixed though, she may just be kneading the floor with her paws. How long have you had her? Has she exhibited the behaviour since you adopted her?
