Hi, Does anyone know anything about struvite crystals? Ive taken my 1yr old kitty to the vet and they put him on a perscription diet (Hills S/D) He wouldn't eat it for the life of him.. now im at a loss at what to feed him. The vet didn't make any suggestions. If anyone has a suggestion please help me out......Thank you. :D

I don't have personal experience with this. I'm sorry. This link should help. There seems to be a problem with the balance of acidity and alkalinity in the urine. Please let us know if you find some help in this link or elsewhere. I wish you the very best!

Struvite

I have 13 cats and about 5 years ago one of my male cats had that problem. My cat became obstructed and ended up having surgery to correct the problem. My vet put him on Science Diet CD/S. Since I have so many cats I fed all of them the same. They all liked the food.

My cat ended up have to have the surgery also after he kept getting blocked. Ask your vet to get you Purina UR prescription food. It is for the struvite crystals, and it is an alternative to Hills. My cat wouldn't touch the Hills Science diet either. He loves the Purina UR. :D

Struvite

Since I posted last I talked to a vet that specializes in "cats only" struvite crystals. He told me the main key is making sure they drink alot of water. He said feed canned cat food. I asked him what brand he recommended & he said it didn't matter as long as its canned because there's alot of moisture in it. You may want to try that or ask you vet about it. :)

Flatfour - how long ago did your cat have the surgery? Mine had it 7 years ago and has bouts of cystitis (blood in urine). Thats why I called this specialist about the canned food because of the moisture content. The vet told me that it happens sometimes after the surgery and alot of times its caused by stress.
