I just heard this for the first time on the radio a few weeks ago. I could remember hearing the original as a kid in the mid 80s but I didn't understand the meaning of the song or anything then. However, now I "get it" more and I definitely appreciate the musical harmonies much more.

The version that I actually heard on the radio is not only Sugarland, but they are collaborating with Little Big Town and Jake Owen, with whom they were on tour at the time they released the song.

All their voices (7 of them) blend together so well, it's AMAZING, and I enjoy their version much better than the original. So much more power.

I get to see Sugarland in concert at the end of July here at the ND State Fair and I really hope this song is performed, and I hope I like it half as much without the help of Little Big Town and Jake Owen.

Here's a performance of the song I found on YouTube:

I really enjoy this song as well. I looked it up on youtube a few weeks ago.

I am kind of bummed that I learned the meaning behind the lyrics, not that there is anything wrong with them...but it wasn't about what I thought it might be about.

That said, I was really singing along in the car yesterday to it...it was a good day for a drive!

great find!

That song was sampled for a commercial a few years ago and it brought back such memories I was screwed up for weeks. I love Sugarland, but I still like the original better.

I got the creeps...

I have the CD of "Life in a Northern Town" (Dream Academy). We heard the song in a commercial. So we went to the store to buy a CD. When we arrived at the store, my husband ask me: "WHO performs it? WHAT´S the TITLE???"

So I stood in the store - and started to SING! "This is the song we are looking for!"
My husband went totally red of my singing. Nasty situation for him, but I had a lot of fun.

That´s me...

hey Jo, do you know if it's going to be on their new album??
According to their website, www.sugarlandmusic.com , their new album will be out on July 22 and "Life In A Northern Town" will be on the deluxe edition of that CD (regular CD 12 tracks, deluxe 17 tracks).

Apparently "Life In A Northern Town" was a collaborative event between Sugarland, Little Big Town and Jake Owen while they were on tour together and shot exclusively for CMT (Country Music Television) who happened to be sponsoring the tour.
