Hi there :)

My Boo is dealing with food allergies and we're mid-way through an elimination diet. He's been on rabbit for the last couple of months and tolerates it very well. I'm switching him to venison and have run into a couple of hiccups this week and I'm hoping someone else has had the same problem because I'm at a loss as to what to do.

I started out just giving him little bites of it for two days to see if he was even interested and he loved it. He did puke up once, but I'm convinced that it was because he was on Benadryl that day (for a totally unrelated issue and it always makes him nauseated). On day three, I gave him about a half ounce half way between his normal mealtimes. He promptly puked it up. I gave him another 'treat' size of it that night and he was fine. This morning, I mixed just under half an ounce with his rabbit breakfast and he puked it all up again right away. He loves venison and is very excited to eat it - I know that sometimes if they eat too quickly, it can cause puking, but I feel like he has never eaten enough of it at one time to really cause that to happen.

Any ideas/suggestions on how to do this again without him puking everywhere? Or should I just not proceed with venison?

Thank you!

I'm curious whether your cat was able to eventually tolerate venison or not? I'm in a very similar situation to yours with my two cats- I'm on a novel protein diet for food allergies and am attempting to transition to commercial raw venison. But about ninety percent of the time, they throw up the venison within thirty minutes of eating it! Were you able to get your cat to eat the venison, or did you end up switching back to rabbit?
