My daughter found tapeworm segments near the kitten on Saturday (8.13). Just had her to the vet on Thursday and she rec'd the dewormer from the doc. I'm wondering if it's coincidence that the worms are showing up now or if the medication had anything to do with them showing up.

Also, she seems to be sleep a LOT more today than she has since we've had her. Is that also a coincidence?

I'll be calling the vet tomorrow to ask some questions.

Any input is appreciated as we've never had this issue with a kitten before.

I am no expert here, but dewormers usually work with the cat expelling the worms out in their feces. If the cat was given meds for this last Thurs, then it makes sense that you guys are finding them when you are. I would mention it to the vet though just in case.

The general purpose dewormer that most kittens are given doesn't kill tapes, so your daughter will need to call the vet to make sure that the kitten receives an effective tapeworm dewormer.

If the kitten was vaccinated at her last vet appt., that may explain her lethargy. Vaccinations can make some felines feel pretty puny for a while.
