Yesterday afternoon, when I went down to the basement, I smelled the strong odor of the cat's litter box after the cat takes a poop. It would've been okay except that Buggy passed away on Tuesday and there are no longer any litter boxes in the basement bathroom. They had been thrown out this past Wednesday, and the bathroom scrubbed of any smells. As I went back to the bedroom on the second floor, the strong smell seemed to stay with me as I walked up the staircase and then disappeared after several minutes.

I'm so sorry you lost your cat. Have you cleaned that area with an cleaner with enzymes? You could also purchase Nil Odor at the drugstore in a spray form. After you clean, spray Nil Odor. That should eliminate the odor. I wish you the best.

Yes, the area had been cleaned out and sanitized the day after he passed away. The smell was around for several minutes on Sunday. In the last week, I haven't detected it before or since. The day after he died, I heard the loud thud as if he jumped from his bed onto the floor of his bedroom and then a scratching and clawing on the hallroom carpet in front of my bedroom. It appears that my mind is playing back some of the memories of our cat.

Sorry for your loss...

When i first read your post, I thought either mind tricks or maybe even some type of lingering presence (I'm a paranormal buff).

Moving to something a little more easy to prove.... Could there actually be another cat? Maybe a stray that found a way in and out?
