The NIP! and other questions

So, who partakes in the cat nip? DO you do dried? Fresh? If you do dried...is it contained or loose?

Once I get my mind on something, I tend to obsess until it leaves my system. LOL. I am hoping that Otis reacts to catnip when she is of age. I know 10-30% genetically just are not inclined to enjoy it. But I have given catnip to cats before and find it very amusing.

Are there any of you against catnip?

What is your favorite kind or way to give catnip? Do any of you use sprays or bubbles?

Also, I think my cat might have mush pad disease :( Not sure but she has this dry, peeling going on. I do intend to take her (and my little dog who is due) to the vet very soon. Any of you experience this problem?

Thanks!

My cats are obsessed with Yeowww brand catnip toys. They have the banana, cigar, fish and rainbow. Every day a ton of times MowMow stops by the toy basket and digs one of them out and rubs on it/licks it. Once he's staggered away SHepherd Book jumps on it and rolls around with it and then passes out on top of it.

If I have something stressful happening like guests coming I give them each a hit of dried organic nip and let them get good and high. It keeps them calm. :)
I use kong spray to attack the kitty to the scratching posts.
I used to grow fresh but the neighborhood cats had a party in my yard and tore it out of the ground and chewed it up.
cooncatbob...OMG. That's hilarious.

And good idea MowMow. I wish there was a dog nip to settle my dogs down as well.

I might have to try growing catnip outside. I wonder if its hard? Never grown anything before.

You can usually find Catnip plants in the herb section of you local nursery.
It's a member of the mint family so it's easy to grow.
I grew it for the office cat where I worked for 21 years, Riley was a catnip junky I bush a flower under his nose and his eyes would glaze and he'd start to drool.
Only problem is the next day he'd be really grumpy and swat at Lisa the office manager, since he spent most f the day in her office she didn't appreciate his habit and I could only treat him about once a month and usually on Fridays.
Since I lived nearest to the office I was the person who feed him on the weekends and during the last years of his long life I'd have to pill him.
Yes Autumn does partake in the nip. I don't give it to her very often but I do when she is especially bored . She gets really crazy after smelling it and rolls around like a kitten. I always get a laugh out of her.

I use the loose dried nip and don't have a specific brand, just something that smells good and fresh. I see nothing wrong in giving a kitty nip.
Mia doesnt care for catnip. I have bought loose nip to spread some out on her post, catnip toys too. She sniffs it and just walks away. Of course she also wont eat wet or human food. Picky girl I guess.
While Riley was a junky my Meme was a prude, I busted a fresh bud under her nose, she sniffed backed up 2 steps and gave me a nice long hiss, as if to say "Drugs Bad".
I actually just got back inside a few moments ago , I still have fresh green catnip in my yard at this time of year!! So my cats are right now rolling on it. I grow my own, so I know there is nothing on/in it. frankly it is easy to grow but is very invasive, I have it all around my house, but I don't mind. I had it in a pot but it went to seed one year and got loose.

As it grows I just snip off pieces (the more you snip the bushier it gets) and dry it. Easy to do. turn on your oven to 200 F (aprox. 93 C) when it is warmed up spread the leaves on a cookie sheet, put them in the oven. Turn the oven off and let sit 2 - 4 hours (depending on humidity) its ready when the leaves are "crispy" store in a jar.

I have bought cheap baby booty socks and stuffed it in them and just sewn up he hole.

Funny I have strays living on my porch but have never had them show interest in my patch unless someone mows it down.
I wish Apollo loved catnip. He's the first cat I've ever had that hasn't loved it.

I've tried different brands, sprays, everything. Even catnip filled toys do nothing for him. He'll sniff at it, maybe eat a bite or two, then wander off and finish whatever he was doing. I wonder if fresh, home-grown catnip would get a rise out of him? I should try that, lol. It is funny though, whenever he hears me shaking the container his nip is in, he comes running like a bat out of ****, pawing at the container. But as soon as the catnip comes out, he couldn't care less.

I always got catnip starter plants at my local nursery in the herb section, very cheap couple $.
Look for a plant that's got some flowers on it, take a flower and crumple it under kitty's nose, if that doesn't work he's one of the cat that nip doesn't affect.

I used to think that Midnight was our 'nip junkie...then Momo came along. She LOVES catnip. She doesn't eat it like the others do. She sniffs at it and after that, she's high as a kite. She'll dump her share on the carpet and rolls around in it until she's coated like an herb-rubbed piece of meat. What's funny is that the other cats will come up to her and will try to lick the 'nip off...well, except for Midnight. She gets this look on her face that is so hilarious. It's like she's passing judgement on Momo and her habit. Nevermind that SHE'S just as bad.

I've tried Mouse on dried nip over her scratching posts and she's ignored it, so i'm not sure if i've got the right stuff. i'm going to try powdered next and then once the weather warms up i'll try growing some.

Mr P, my friends cat goes mad for it :D
Kyra looooves her some nip. My brother decided to enable her this Christmas and bought a big bag of the stuff. She eats it, sniffs it, rolls in it, LOVES it. The nip does NOT calm her down though. She loses control of her claws(OW!) and gets nippy and CRAAAAZY. I have started getting her realllly high before I leave the apartment so the BF has to deal with a stoned kitty.

I should try growing it. I am starting down the road of crazy controlling kitty health nut, so I may as well grow her drugs too.
