There's a strange cat in my house...

About a month ago, this cat started coming to our house every evening...then he started coming in and meowing most piteously...so of course like any decent person I fed him. Mistake. He won't go away, and he keeps meowing. And I can't figure out why he's meowing, either. I thought it would be because he wants to be petted, because he keeps rubbing against me, but then when I pet him he tries to bite me. It's very strange.
We already have a cat--she's one of those angry, anti-social calicos--she definitely wouldn't appreciate another cat in the house...so far he's avoided her when he comes to visit, but recently he's been trying to get in at night, and then our cat has to be the fierce protector of the house...you know. Furthermore, I don't know if this cat is just one of the neighbor's come to visit, or if he's from farther away and got lost, or if he's homeless, or what...I don't want to take him to a shelter because he might just belong to someone living nearby.
What should I do? How could I discourage him?

Whether he's lost or already has a home, the fact that you feed him means he'll probably never stop coming around. Does he wear a collar? If so, attach a note to it (secure it somehow so it doesn't fall off) with your contact info and a note stating he's been coming to your house. That way, if he lives somewhere, his owners will eventually see the note when he goes home.

If he ends up not belonging to anyone you could either decided to keep on doing what your doing or you could try and find him a home. :D

You can try putting up some "Is this your cat?" flyers in the neighborhood.
