I don’t want to rehome my cats but ive honestly had enough.
I have 2 indoor cats. They are brother and sister ( both have been done). I have had them for 2 years.
The male cat has always had a problem with peeing on things and no improvement after having him done. The female cat has always had a problem with chewing on wires but we have started using furry tape to cover the wires and this has now helped. Every night since the day we brought them they have been shut in the lounge until the morning and this has never been a problem. But I have recently had a baby and they have got 100x worse. They pee on her clothes and play mat and my clothes. They now rip up the carpet at night ( the carpet is literally destroyed and I can’t afford to replace and I know they will just destroy the new carpet anyway).
I can’t have this go ok any longer. Not hygienic for my baby and not good for my stress levels. Please can someone help. I love them but I’ve had enough.

I’m sorry you’re having such a tough time, it sounds miserable for you, and your cats are clearly very unhappy, made much worse by the increased tension and strangeness (for them) of having a baby in the house,

First, I don’t doubt for one moment that you love them, And I know first hand how tough having piddling and destructive cats can be. I could list steps to make your home less stressful for them, eg extra litter trays and scratching posts, feliway diffusers, giving them more one to one play time, and not getting cross with them (which will only make it worse by ramping up the tension and they won’t understand why you’re cross) etc.

But you have two young active cats whose needs aren’t being met. The situation might improve by trying the tips listed above, but if you can’t make your home and lifestyle fit their needs, this is likely to continue, particularly once your little one gets more mobile.

Sometimes it really is better for the cats, and for you, to recognise that they may be better off in a quieter home where they have more freedom as they get older and more confident, and you will have a calmer and more hygiene. Home for your little one. Have a chat with a reputable local rescue centres, some can give you more advice, or they may be able to offer rehoming from your home or take them in for rehoming through their centre.

NUNCA cerrar puertas, NUNCA.

Gracias

Your cats probably "always had problems" because they were shut in a room all night. I strongly suggest you rehome asap them with somebody experienced in cat behavior.

In fairness I’ve had cats in the last who for various reasons I’ve shut in one room at night (with food water, litter and somewhere comfy to sleep), as has my mother. They all coped with it fine. One cat even asked to be put to bed in there at night. I think the problems in this situation are much broader and could be summed up as a mismatch between cats and household. I hope they can find the right way to resolve this.
